Blog Post #1


    Something I've always struggled with is how to use technology effectively. In the past I've found myself using complicated technology methods simply because I wasn't aware of anything easier. With this class, I'm hoping to learn more about how to use technology efficiently in the classroom that will allow me to educate my students to the best of my ability. Technology has greatly benefitted me as a student, so I'm looking forward to being on the other side of things and seeing how much I can benefit from technology as a teacher.

    For as long as I can remember I've used technology in the classroom. I remember in elementary school when teachers first used projectors and how much easier that made teaching for them. I took technology classes throughout elementary and middle school so that I was prepared to use desktops and iPads in high school. In high school I always used an iPad to complete assignments, take notes, and even watch classroom lectures during COVID-19. I learned a lot about laptops and technology during COVID which helped me immensely coming into college. Throughout college I've used both an iPads and a laptop for essentially all of my classes. 

    My existing personal learning networks include FSU resources, Canvas, and Canva. Florida State has provided me with many online resources over the years that have allowed me to advance my technological skills in many different ways. As a psychology major, I love learning about anything psychology. The FSU psychology department has online resources that provide many research articles I find myself often browsing through. I also participate in online psychology studies in order for graduate students to have sufficient numbers to conduct their research for their various projects. This has allowed me to learn more about specific studies and different types of psychology. Canvas allows me to easily submit assignments and look ahead in my classes. Canva has been a more creative outlet that allows me to be create with my work and therefore motivate me throughout my studies.

     One of my requirements in middle school was to take a computer class. One of the first concepts I remember learning in this class was how to use MS Word. This allowed me to build a solid foundation for all MS platforms in my high school and college career. In my opinion, MS Word is the most easy application to use when being compared to other applications like Google Docs or Pages. I'm probably bias because I've been using MS Word for so long, but I definitely think that it's the easiest application to navigate, convert, and share. Blog Journal 4

     I would describe my experience with blogging so far as positive and insightful. My favorite aspect of blogging is how it allows me to have a space to freely express my thoughts and interests while at the same time being able to receive feedback and comments from others. I love that my classmates and teachers are able to see my posts and better understand my thought processes. Every week I look forward to reading my classmates posts and seeing how what they took away from the class material differs from how I may have interrupted it. This also has helped me gain a better understanding of the class material by gaining outside perspectives. I've learned many valuable technological skills throughout my blogging experience as well. Embedding urls and social media profiles is something I hadn't known how to do before and is a skill I will definitely use in my future careers.       An interesting Web 2.0 tool that I will use when teaching is Google Docs....

     When searching through the CPALMS website, I focused on the Computer Science standards that start in the 2025 school year specifically for 6th grade students. I chose to focus on these standards because I feel as though they would be most relevant to my 6th grade English classroom. The specific standard that I chose was emerging technologies. This included three different standards: Identify emerging technologies, Identify Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its applications, and Identify characteristics of robotics. These standard are extremely important today with the continuous rise of technology in the classroom.
