Blog Journal 4

I would describe my experience with blogging so far as positive and insightful. My favorite aspect of blogging is how it allows me to have a space to freely express my thoughts and interests while at the same time being able to receive feedback and comments from others. I love that my classmates and teachers are able to see my posts and better understand my thought processes. Every week I look forward to reading my classmates posts and seeing how what they took away from the class material differs from how I may have interrupted it. This also has helped me gain a better understanding of the class material by gaining outside perspectives. I've learned many valuable technological skills throughout my blogging experience as well. Embedding urls and social media profiles is something I hadn't known how to do before and is a skill I will definitely use in my future careers.

An interesting Web 2.0 tool that I will use when teaching is Google Docs. I actually currently use Google Docs when teaching SLS2206 here at Florida State. In my experience, Google Docs has been extremely useful as it allows me to create a shared space for my students and their work. I've been able to create documents and slideshows that my students can both collaborate on and work on individually. The collaboration aspect of Google Docs is what I find valuable as I'm able to directly comment on my student's work and my students are able to easily contribute to group projects and activities. I definitely plan to continue using Google Docs in my future teaching career and hope to learn more about it throughout the semester.

My first experience with generative AI was 2 years ago, my second year of undergrad. One of my roommates at the time was an environmental science and policy major and often used ChatGPT to help her with geographical mapping. Before this, I has never used Generative AI tools or had even heard of them. I then began to use Generative AI to assist my writing of cover letters and when working on building my resume. I found this to provide me with an extremely strong starting point for my cover letters as it gave me a clear basis of what should and should not be included. Generative AI also allowed me to build my resume by providing me with skills that aligned with my current and former work experience. I had an overall positive first experience with Generative AI but I haven't used it much since then. I'm excited to learn more about Generative AI and discover how some of its benefits can assist me in my personal and professional life.

I envision using Generative AI in my future teaching practices to help assist me with lesson plans and classroom activities. Even when I'm teaching now, I often feel like I'm repeating activities that lead my students to feel bored and less engaged in the classroom. I think that Generative AI can provide me with activity and lesson examples that are fresh and allow my students to have an exciting learning experience. I would also plan a lesson for my students about Generative AI that includes both the benefits and ethical concerns of using it in the classroom. I want my students to be able to advance their technological skillset by learning about AI while warning them about how easy it is to fall victim to the ethical concerns it can bring.
