Copyright issues in the classroom have drastically increased in recent years due to the rise of technology. Before these technological advances, teachers would deal with copyright issues of students copying from each other or from books. Now, with online research articles and artificial intelligence, there are many different ways students can fall victim to copyright. In my own classroom, I would try to minimize copyright issues by first educating my students on how to correctly cite their sources. Many students don't even know they're copyrighting simply because they aren't citing their work or they're not citing correctly. I think creating a lesson plan on how to cite different online resources would greatly minimize copyright in my classroom. I would also try my best to minimize technology in my classroom where it isn't necessary. For example, doing assignments on paper like essays or reflections will decrease the likelihood of students getting information from online websites or AI, and rather using their own original work. With AI detectors on website like Canvas it's become easy for teachers to be able to monitor the issue, but it's still very prevalent. In my college career my professors have always educated me about the seriousness of copyright and the consequences that come with it. With that, they always have been sure to explain how to properly cite resources which has helped immensely and is something I would like to implement in my own classroom.
One technology implementation issue that I think has become very relevant and dangerous is cyberbullying. Students of all ages now have social media and access to other online platforms that allows them to communicate with their classmates. Although this can be beneficial for collaborative work, it can also lead to cyberbullying. In my classroom, I want all of my students to feel welcome and look forward to coming to class everyday. Cyberbullying often males students scared to come to class, less likely to participate, less likely to do their work, and overall be unable to learn effectively. In my own classroom I will handle any issues around bullying, but especially cyberbullying in person, holding students accountable. I think it's important for teachers to use their authority in order to create a safe classroom environment, and handling cyberbullying issues is a big part of that process. If cyberbullying is ever an issue in my own classroom, I will take matters into my own hands and address the issue with both my students and their parents.
Working on the Newsletter Design assignment was overall a very exciting and enjoyable experience. I was able to use my own creativity while learned new skills in MS word to further my creative skillset. However, this assignment was very time consuming for me because I was learning a lot of these skills as I went. In order to improve my newsletter in the future I would definitely make a plan before creating it. I would be sure of what topics I want to discuss and be sure to only include information that I think is important and necessary. I found myself second guessing a lot of my work which definitely contributed to the long amount of time I spent on the assignment. The skills in MS word that I learned for this assignment will greatly help me in my teaching career when creating worksheets, exit tickets, permission slips, and so much more. All of the shortcuts I learned will also help me use MS efficiently in my own classroom.
